The first chapter of your novel introduces your protagonist and also sets up the "world" your
character lives in, so if your story is fantasy, horror or supernatural you'll want to set all that up in the
very beginning of your story. You can introduce your character in way that allows us to know what
kind of person he or she is and how he or she fits in into the world around them.
Second, you'll also want to think about what "voice" you're going to write your book in. First person really
connects us to your character and their point of view but it doesn't allow s to see what's going on
with other characters unless your character is present. Third person perspective is really cool,
this perspective allows you to talk about other characters and even peer into their thoughts and know
about how they feel about their place in the world.
Either perspective works, just pick one and stick to it or not. I always feel that writers need to tell their
stories the way they feel they need to be told so why not break a few rules?
