I Have a Dream

What's your dream?  Doctor Martin Luther King had a dream that people would one day work together and live together in harmony regardless of their race or religion.  I can't say it's 100% true, people have lots of problems with each other but many more people are marrying people from different race and religion than ever.  A woman won the Oscar for best director for the first time in Academy history and an African-American writer won an Oscar for best adapted screenplay.  Dreams are coming to fruition every day. I am sure that Dr. King would never have imagined that this country would elect an African-American president.  I remember how I kept pinching myself because I couldn't believe that I actually saw an African-American president elected in my lifetime.  Nelson Mandela became president of a country that imprisoned him for over twenty years elected him as its president.

So you see dreams can come true, even big dreams.  What are your dreams?  In the theater workshop where I teach a Creative Writing class we have a mantra (saying) that each teacher says at the end of his or her class. "If you can convince it, and believe it, you can achieve it.  If you have a dream it's your job to go after it- believe you can get it and take the chance.
