It's All About the Details Baby!

If you want to find a way to pull your readers into your story you have to remember to include lots of details.  Not cliches but details that inform us about the character: details about the world they live in, details about who they are, and details about the their lives.

Fully describing the world your character lives in invites your reader to join that world at least for a little while.  Try to think about why your character takes the actions she or he takes.  For example does your character spill a drink in order to avoid an uncomfortable conversation?  A spilled drink now can take on a different meaning.  It's all those details that elevates your writing into something special filled with subtext and meaning.

So the next time you're writing remember to include details that can uncover hidden meaning and allow readers to take a wonderful journey in the world you've created.
