How to Become a Better Writer

I am reading a book called Reading Like a Writer by Francine Prose.  I'll sum it up for you in a nutshell.  Writers learn to write better by learning from other writers.  Prose breaks the book down in chapters starting from the words we use when writing a story to sentences, paragraphs, characters, dialogue and more.

She teaches writers how to become better writers by using segments of writing the works of great writers like Jane Austin, who is really excellent at developing character in her stories.  Every writer has an area of writing that they excel in.  For some it's dialogue, while others are more skilled in writing plot.

What the book really focuses on why it's important for writers to read.  When you read you learn more about writing.
