Review of Silver Sparrow by Tayari Jones

I read this book this summer and although it's not YA I felt it's still worth reviewing.  Silver Sparrow is the story of two girls Dana Lynn Yarbor and Bunny Chaurisse Witherspoon who are half sisters and Dana is the only one who knows it.  That's because Dana and Chaurisse's father, James Witherspoon has two families.  He married Dana's mother soon after Chaurisse was born.  Both families live in the same city and they have very different lives.

The first part of the book is narrated by Dana Jame's "secret daughter" and deals with Dana's  struggles of being a teenager and her struggles coping with being the second daughter as she struggles to grasp onto her father's love.  After Dana and Chaurisse meet and become friends the book is told from Chaurisse's viewpoint.

Clever book.  Great writing.
