I steadied my surfboard as the wave took me out across the ocean. I passed the Catalina Islands and just kept moving until I started to see blue turquoise water. The sun beat down on my body punishing it as its harsh rays slapped me across my face, causing it to burn and redden. My throat was parched; it felt dry and scratchy like sandpaper rubbed against it. The moisture from my lips succumbed to the heat and my lips started to crack. I had no idea where I was but I knew I had to do something quickly before it was too late.
