Prompt 148

Listen to your favorite story and try to come up with a story. It doesn't have to be a literal meaning taken from what the song is about.  Let the song inspire you.  Think about how the song makes you feel.  What images comes to mind when you hear the song?  Does it recall memories of your own?  Give it a try and remember to always keep writing!

Prompt 147

You'll have to get a few people to help you with this prompt.  I tried it yesterday in the creative writing class I teach at a children's theater workshop and it was a hit! You'll need help doing this exercise. Try to find one person to give you their word for each item listed below:

A girl's name, a boy's name, a place, a weird habit, a fear, an obsession, a strength and a weakness.  After you get your list together use it to write a story.  Have fun!

Prompt 146

Today I want you to study your surroundings.  Look out the window and describe what you see in detail.  Try to find ways to make comparisons and create metaphors to help you describe what you see.

When I look out my window this chilly morning.  I see a pink horizon that slowly crawls under the shadows the the grey morning.  The sun shinning through my window is a beacon erasing the world that was once help captive by the night but now appears triumphantly reclaiming its power to give life to the world.

Special Kids Doing Big Things

It seems that for years now we've been seeing all these stories pop up with "special kids".  I don't even remember when it all started.  Kids are vampires, werewolves, demons; they are fly, walk through walls and do just about anything because they have "superpowers".  Their worlds aren't based in reality.  It seems like that's what people are going for nowadays.

In the movie Chronicle kids wake up with superpowers and we all about "special powers" from watching X-Men but then again in Buffy the Vampire Slayer kids with special powers popped up everywhere so maybe it all started there and then just blew up.

I write stories based in reality, except for my new project that I call Superman and Me sometimes I call it Alien Girl.  I think it's a good idea to stretch your creative juices and try writing something different from time to time but don't try to predict what will be a hit; you'll just be wasting your time if you try to do that.  The truth is no one really knows what will be the next "hot" story.  The best thing to do is to just keep writing and try out different kind of stories from time to time and most important have some fun.

Prompt 146

Write a poem or story based on this picture.  It's from a 9/11 monument.  As you look across from where the monument stands you can see New York.  I imagine that anyone standing there on that day could see everything that happened.
